Bach Flower

Dr. Edward Bach (1886 - 1936) began his medical career as a conventional physician, bacteriologist, and pathologist. Through his clinical work, he observed that while conventional medicine could successfully treat physical symptoms, some patients did not fully recover — even when their diagnosis and treatment were considered correct.

He noticed that in certain cases, two patients with the same illness would respond very differently to the same treatment. This led him to realize that something deeper than the physical body was influencing recovery.

This realization inspired him to search for a gentler, more holistic system of healing focused on balancing emotional states — which ultimately led to the development of the Bach Flower Remedies.

Dr. Bach’s philosophy was based on a simple but profound belief: true healing begins in the emotional and spiritual dimension of the person.

He believed that illness is not just a physical condition, but the result of a disharmony between the personality and the soul. According to Dr. Bach, when we ignore our inner truth — through fear, insecurity, resentment, guilt, pride, or lack of purpose — this internal conflict can eventually manifest in the body as disease.

Core Principles of His Philosophy

  • Treat the person, not the disease.
Two people with the same diagnosis may need completely different remedies because their emotional experiences are different.

  • Emotional balance restores physical health.
When negative emotional states are transformed into positive qualities (fear into courage, despair into hope, doubt into confidence), the body is better able to heal itself.

  • Healing should be simple and natural.
He believed remedies should be gentle, safe, and accessible to everyone.

  • The patient is the guide.
The practitioner listens deeply, but the individual’s feelings and self-awareness are central in choosing the remedies.

Dr. Bach’s work with the Bach Flower Remedies was not only a therapeutic system, but also a spiritual philosophy of self-responsibility, self-knowledge, and inner harmony.

Reiki

Mikao Usui (1865–1926) was the Japanese spiritual teacher who founded the Reiki healing system, formally known as Usui Reiki Ryōhō. His work has influenced energy healing practices worldwide.

According to Reiki tradition, Usui undertook a 21-day meditation and fasting retreat on Mount Kurama in Japan. During this period of deep spiritual practice, he experienced a profound awakening in which he received insight into a healing method using universal life energy — what he called Reiki (“Rei” = universal/spiritual wisdom, “Ki” = life energy).

The philosophy of Mikao Usui is centered on the understanding that true healing begins within. Reiki, in his view, was not only a healing technique, but a spiritual path toward personal growth, balance, and awakening.

Core Principles of His Philosophy

1. Spiritual development comes first
Usui taught that Reiki is a method to improve the mind and cultivate inner harmony. Physical healing is a natural result of spiritual balance.

2. The Reiki Precepts (Gokai)
He emphasized living by five daily principles:

  • Just for today, do not anger

  • Just for today, do not worry

  • Be grateful

  • Work diligently

  • Be kind to others

These precepts encourage emotional responsibility and conscious living.

3. Universal Life Energy
Usui believed that Reiki is a universal energy accessible to everyone. Practitioners act as channels for this energy, allowing it to flow where it is needed for balance and healing.

4. Self-healing and self-responsibility
Reiki empowers individuals to participate actively in their own healing process, supporting self-awareness and inner peace.

For Usui, Reiki was ultimately a path to becoming a more compassionate, balanced, and spiritually aligned human being.
